Flagship Social Outreach Program

Being a boutique asset manager, Flagship is all about people. We operate as a partnership, a collection of ethical individuals, embracing the principles of simplicity and efficiency. We believe the most effective way to uplift our communities, with a vision for the future, is to invest in the youth of South Africa. This is why we have chosen to partner with the Pebbles Project in providing support to an early care and education creche as our social outreach program.

Pebbles are a non-profit organisation, passionate about supporting children and their families in farming communities in the Western Cape region of South Africa. Their aim is to enable children and young adults from agricultural communities to reach their full potential through education, health, and nutritional services. Pebbles value compassion, commitment, courage, and integrity. These values align closely with Flagship’s culture, and it for this reason that we have chosen Pebbles as our social partner, in supporting the Nuwedrift Edu-Centre Creche.

Nuwedrift is situated in the agricultural town of Paarl in the Western Cape region. Via the Pebbles Project, the Nuwedrift Edu-Centre has been specifically equipped to educate and enrich learners as well as address various challenges that may arise. This initiative is realised by providing resources, training and enrichment to learners and practitioners alike.

The Early Care and Education Program is comprised of two initiatives: the First Thousand Days (FTD), and the Early Childhood Development (ECD) phase. Both the FTD, 0-3 years, and ECD, 3-6 years, are focussed on providing education, nutrition, and support to learners. The program also provides training sessions to practitioners who are equipped to teach the necessary and appropriate skills to learners, enabling them to achieve their particular milestones and reach their developmental goals. These training sessions share valuable tools in the art of illustrated storytelling, using resources and apparatus, music, one-on-one sessions, structural playtime, and assessments. These techniques assist significantly with literacy, early vocabulary building skills and overall enrichment of the learner.

During the earlier part of the year, practitioners engaged in a wellness session where the focus was on self-love and essential self-care skills. Enriching and empowering practitioners in turn benefits the learners who are in the care of committed and dedicated role-models.

This year sees The Pebbles Project celebrate 20 years of providing services and support to agricultural communities. The highlights for Nuwedrift Edu-Centre Creche included a successful athletics day, a Mother’s Day tea and festivities, dental care for children, special education needs provided to learners with developmental delays, toys and resources donations, a presentation on child protection and safety hosted by ACVV and each child receiving a beanie and a blanket for winter.

Flagship Asset Management has been a proud advocator and financial supporter of these life-changing initiatives for the past five years.
